After the 2008 game, league commissioner Roger Goodell stated that the permanent expansion of the NFL to London was "a realistic possibility." On December 1, 2008, the league announced that the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers would play in the London game on October 25, 2009. In January of 2009, tickets for the Patriots-Buccaneers went on sale and 70,000 were sold, including 20,000 within the first seven minutes.
